will need the manufacture’s certificate of origin
and the bill of sale. For a used boat, you will need the current
registration (and title, if applicable) signed over to
you by the previous owner. A bill of sale is required for any boat
purchased from a dealer.

and how much does it cost?
Answer:
Deeds and mortgages are recorded at the Recorder’s Office on the
second floor of the Greene
County Courthouse. The standard recording fee is $5.00 per page,
plus $2.00 per document. A deed will also require an Auditor’s
Transfer Fee of $5.00 per parcel and a real estate transfer stamp
based on the selling price
of the property.

Question: Driver’s License – How many days do I have to renew mine?
Answer:
Your license expires on your birthday. It is valid for another 60
days and can be renewed within that
60 days without having to take the knowledge test.
You will have
to pass the vision screening test each time your license is renewed.
If your license has been expired
for more than one year, you will have to take the driving test as
well as the knowledge test and vision screening.
Under special
circumstances, you can apply for your license renewal from 30 days
to one year before the
expiration on your license. You must, however, explain to the
examiner why you're applying for such an early renewal.

Question: Driveways – I want to put in a new driveway. What do I
need to do?
Answer:
Complete an Entrance Application form, which is available at the
County Engineer’s office located on the first floor of the
Courthouse. The application form must indicate where the entrance
will be built, who is
making the application, owner of the land and where the bill is to
be sent. It is advised that the applicant mark
the location of the proposed entrance, then the Engineer or district
foreman will examine the site to determine the necessary size and
type of entrance pipe to be installed if pipe is needed.

Answer:
Applications are taken at the County Engineer’s Office, located on
the first floor of the Greene
County Courthouse. Payment must be made at the time of application,
but the check is held and not cashed until treatment of the roadway
is completed. Dust control materials are applied by an approved,
independent contractor, not by county forces.

License Plates – When can I renew them?
Answer:
Vehicles may be renewed one month prior to your registration
renewal month, your renewal month, or the month following without
penalty, unless the last day falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or
Holiday, then penalty applies the second business day of the
delinquent month.
A reminder will
be sent to you by the county treasurer; however failure to receive a
notice shall not have an effect upon the accrual of penalty on the
appropriate date.

Answer:
Bring your license plates and registration to the County Treasurer’s

and complete a “Claim for Refund.” The claim will then be sent to
the Iowa Department of Transportation. If approved, a refund will be
mailed to you within four to six weeks.

Question: Property Taxes – Can I make a partial payment?
Answer:
Yes, partial payments are accepted for current or delinquent real
estate or mobile home property tax. If you are paying delinquent
mobile home or real estate property tax, the amount of the partial
payment must be greater than the late interest and cost due.
Partial payments are not accepted for special assessments or tax
sale redemption payments. Please indicate on your payment that it
is a partial payment of tax due. We will apply your payment and
give/send you a receipt and a balance due statement. For more

Property Taxes – When are they due?
Answer:
Your tax statement will provide you with the amount of the tax due
for the year. The tax statement will include two payment stubs, one
for the first half of the year and one for the second half. You may
choose to pay each half by the due date with these stubs or pay the
full year at once.
The first half
of property tax is due by September 30th of each year.
Late interest will begin accruing October 1st.
The second half
is of property tax is due by March 31st of each year.
Late interest will begin accruing April 1st.
Please be aware that Iowa Law does not
grant an extension of the late interest date when the last business
day falls on a Saturday or Sunday.

Answer:
You can register to vote in the Auditor’s Office located on the

with a voter registration form to complete and sign in order to
become a registered voter in Greene County. You may also complete a

information. A voter registration form may be obtained on-line by
